TANGIPAHOA PARISH - State Fire Marshal (SFM) deputies have arrested a Ponchatoula woman accused of setting fire to a relative’s home, that she was being allowed to stay in, following a dispute.
Savannah Scariano, 25, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on June 7 on one count of Simple Arson.
In the afternoon hours of June 7, SFM deputies were requested by the Eighth Ward Fire Department to assist with determining the origin and cause of a house fire located in the 25000 block of Crown Drive in Ponchatoula.
After an assessment of the scene, deputies determined the fire began in the home’s utility room and was intentionally set.
During the investigation, deputies learned that Scariano was being allowed to stay in the home by the homeowners, who are relatives. However, there was an altercation earlier in the day following the relatives’ attempt to get her to leave the premises. Less than an hour after the altercation, after everyone left the property, the homeowners were alerted to a fire at their home.
In addition, while Scariano was speaking with a Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s deputy on the scene, she admitted to setting the fire.
Following additional investigative efforts, Scariano was confirmed as the suspect in the case and was booked in connection with the case.
