In many places around the world, the delta variant has caused the covid-19 pandemic to surge once again. I spoke to a few people here in Lafayette and some say FDA approval matters while others say approval or not they're are not getting it.
Valery Savoie, Lafayette resident, says "But yes I feel like everyone should get vaccinated so that you know we can put all of this to an end without having to wear the mask"
According to Forbes, nearly 190 Americans have received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose and people who aren't vaccinated are urged to do so.
The federal government hasn't fully approved Covid-19 vaccines but will FDA approval change people's minds? One Lafayette resident says yes.

I'm told the vaccine may be approved once the FDA reviews data covering a longer period of time but one resident tells me FDA approval won't make her get the vaccine.
Jozelle Chavis, Lafayette resident, "But I wouldn't want to get it I wouldn't because that's not how much research you do you never really know what's going to happen basically, and that kind of worries me"
Many residents right here in Acadiana say the increase in Covid numbers has also encouraged them to continue wearing a mask.
Kenneth Lanclos says, "But the second go-round with this Covid or whatever it is I feel that it is necessary they claim that it is a lot worse than the first one"
The FDA accepted Pfizer's application which is under priority review which means it will move faster than during standard reviews, which typically take at least 10 months they will have until January of 2022 to review the materials and the decision is likely to come within 2 months.
