CALCASIEU PARISH - The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) has arrested a Westlake man for setting the house he was renting on fire.Brent Ramirez, 42, was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Jail on one count of Simple Arson.
In the late evening hours of September 8, the Westlake Fire Department contacted the SFM to request assistance determining the origin and cause of a house fire located in the 1200 block of Carroll Street.
After an assessment of the scene, investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.
Deputies learned first responders encountered Ramirez, who was renting the home, upon their arrival on scene. His behavior resulted in transport to a local hospital for evaluation.
In an interview with investigators, Ramirez admitted the fire began when he was engaging in illegal narcotics activities while refueling a generator located in the home’s living room.
Ramirez was placed under arrest after his release from the hospital.
