LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) - Lafayette native and U-F-C fighter Dustin Poirier made a donation to Second Harvest food bank that will provide nearly 300,000 meals.

He said, "This donation is the epitome of Acadiana".

UFC lightweight fighter Dustin Poirier donated 75,000 to Second Harvest food bank to help ongoing recovery efforts and fill food pantries.

The donation will help provide 300,000 meals to families across south Louisiana struggling in the face of ongoing economic instability. Poirier says he's grateful to be in a position to give back.

He said, "I'm very grateful for Louisiana for Acadiana my team I'm in a place of gratitude and I'm just thankful that I recognize the platform I have and I'm able to give back to the city that made me".

Paul Scelfo, regional director for second harvest food bank believes this will encourage others to give back to their community.

He said, "The good fight foundation has worked really hard to be in this situation and the fact that they can consider us for this donation is extremely humbling on our part but it just signifies what Acadiana is all about helping other people".

The good fight foundation is something Dustin and his wife hold near and dear to their hearts and hope to continue making the world a better place.

He said, "The good fight is based out of Louisiana and we've done a lot of things in lafayette and I would love to continue to do that help Louisiana and beyond we have things going on in Uganda and were trying to spread the love across the world
