WEST FELICIANA PARISH- The State Fire Marshal’s Office (SFM) is continuing its investigation into what caused a low-level explosion to occur in a travel trailer located in St. Francisville that critically injured the male and female occupants.
Around 8:45 a.m. on January 2, West Feliciana Fire District #1 requested the assistance of the SFM to determine the origin and cause of a recreational vehicle explosion and fire located in the 10000 block of Tunica Trace.
Both individuals inside of the travel trailer at the time of the incident, a 50-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man, both from Springfield, remain hospitalized with critical injuries.
Following an assessment of the scene, and current available witness statements, SFM deputies have determined the explosion occurred when one of the occupants turned on the stove in the RV’s kitchen. At this time, it is believed that there was a propane build-up inside of the cab that ignited when the stove was turned on, however, the source of that potential build-up is still under investigation.
