Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Paraphernalia Arrest

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 GMC Pickup for traffic violations.

On October 11, 2021, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 GMC Pickup for traffic violations. Upon contact with the driver, Dwight Joseph Menard, the odor of a suspected controlled dangerous substance emitted from the vehicle and a rifle was in the deputy’s view.

Upon searching the vehicle, the following items were located:

· Small bag containing suspected methamphetamine;

· Small bag containing suspected marijuana;

· Drug paraphernalia;

· (1) Taurus 9 mm handgun;

· Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle;

· Savage .22 rifle; and

· Mossberg 6.5 Creedmoor rifle.

On October 11, 2021, Dwight Joseph Menard was transported to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked with traffic violations, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with intent to distribute schedule II CDS, possession of schedule I CDS, possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS (4 counts).
