LAFAYETTE - Daycare Centers in The United States care for over 5 millions kids at the moment and they're struggling to stay open amid the Coronavirus Pandemic.

In an effort to help The Biden Administration is stepping in with an alotted $39B of COVID-19 relief funds to help those facilities. The American Rescue Plan has designated money for stabilization grants to help expand childcare and help low-income families pay for that childcare.

Brittany Estilette, Owner of Creative Minds and Loving Hearts Daycare Center says it's been hard year but she's fortunate.

"I did loose two of my daycare kids due to their parents loosing their jobs because of the pandemic. Thankfully I was able to replace them rather quickly because other parents? Their sitters were closed for whatever reasoning and they needed someone." said Estilette

Lafayette Owner of Sarah's Daycare Center Jody Aycock says the pandemic hit his facility hard. At one point he had to close his doors for a month, child enrollment was just that low.

"After being in business for over 31 years we lost money in 2020 for the first time ever. At the end of March, we were open and we had a staff of only 12 people here. We only had seven children so it did'nt make sense to remain open." said Aycock

Money from The American Rescue Plan will also help care providers pay business rent and invest in COVID-19 safety protocols. That's something Estilette says she's struggled with because cleaning products are exspensive and hard to find.

"Lysol is basically out the question. The Lysol wipes especially, those were my best friends when it came to cleaning. I still have trouble finding the Lysol wipes." said Estilette

President Biden's grants will also go to helping pay for the rehiring of workers who were laid off due to the pandemic.

The Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families will give the grants to states. It'll then be left up to that individual state to distribute those funds how they see fit.
