On 11.10.20 Investigators with the Opelousas Police Department made an arrest in 11.3.20 shooting incident that occurred at the Cash Saver store located on Heather Dr. in Opelousas. A (15) year old male juvenile has been booked with two counts of attempted second degree murder, he is being held pending a formal juvenile hearing. As reported previously the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the (15) year old’s close family member and one of the victims in the shooting. The other victim was not involved in the dispute but was in the line of fire, when the juvenile began shooting.
On 11.12.20 Officers with the Opelousas Police Department were following up on information that was received about possible narcotics trafficking occurring in the area near the South City Park in Opelousas. During the follow-up officers were checking out a suspicious vehicle in the area which resulted in officers locating a substantial amount of narcotics (Heroine, Ecstasy and Morphine), and (2) two stolen firearms. Officers also seized currency and drug paraphernalia. Two arrest were made during the investigation as follows:
Joseph Lionel Sam Jr. age 39, Opelousas, LA., was booked on the following: 2cts of Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms (LA RS 14:69.1), Felon In Possession of Firearm (LA RS 14:95.1), Possession W/Intent to Distribute Schedule I Drugs (Heroin) (LA RS 40:966A), Possession W/Intent to Distribute Schedule I Drugs (Ecstasy) (LA RS 40:966A). Possession W/Intent to Distribute Schedule II Drugs (Morphine) (LA RS 40:967A), Transactions Involving Proceeds from Drug Offense (LA RS 40:1041), and Drug Paraphernalia; Prohibited (LA RS 40:1023).
Kamron Dirk Soileau, age 22, Sunset, LA., 70584, was booked for possession Drug Paraphernalia; Prohibited (LA RS 40:1023) and for outstanding bench warrants for Criminal trespass, and illegal carrying of weapons.
