St. Martinville Man Dies at Destin Beach

A Louisiana man was pulled unconscious from the Gulf of Mexico near Destin after family members say he entered the water and disappeared from view a short time later.

A Louisiana man was pulled unconscious from the Gulf of Mexico near Destin after family members say he entered the water and disappeared from view a short time later.

The 9-1-1 call for a distressed swimmer in the Gulf of Mexico off 1001 Highway 98 East in Destin came in around 9:30 a.m.

The man was pulled from the water and lifesaving measures were immediately taken.

The individual died in an apparent drowning Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico has been identified as a 47-year old St. Martinville Louisiana man.

Family members say he dove under the water and never resurfaced. Lifeguards located him approximately 75 yards from the beach face down in the water and brought him ashore. Sadly, attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
