Aliaksei Shostak represents the USA at Olympics

Lafayette, LA (KADN) -- Aliaksei Shostak started in a gym jumping at six years old. Now he is is one of just 16 men's trampolines In the world competing in the Tokyo Olympics world.

"It is a huge honor," Aliaksei said. "Pretty much like you are flying. There is no limit to how high you can jump. I'll close my eyes and go over in my head many many many times even before I go and compete.

Aliaksei's dad was an Olympic gymnast. Aliaksei tried baseball and wrestling but the trampoline always felt like home. at 16, He moved from Mandeville to Lafayette to move in with his trampoline coach. 

"I think that there is passion in it," Aliaksei said.  "I've tried to step away with it and try other sports and I said you know what let's go all in. "

Alexi says the key to success is focus, but Stoli, the coaches' yellow lab,  is there to greet him when he's done.

"Every time I get off the trampoline he'll have a ball positioned for me to throw and I'll go and kick it and he'll catch it in his mouth,"  Aliaksei said. 

Aliaksei has his name in the rafters, a fun-loving fan on the matt, and now he's soaring to earn the medal to go with it.
