Lafayette,LA- It's almost that time where people fill the stores ready to shop for deals. With small businesses being the backbone of communities, it's essential to remember to shop local during the holidays.
"Shopping local keeps it in the community. So that also helps with paying for our schools and our roads," says Jeremy Truxillo, owner of Big Boy Toys & Hobbies.
Owners of Big Boy Toys & Hobbies, Melissa and Jeremy Truxillo, see shopping locally as shopping with friends." You shop local, with your friends, and you know you trust friends. Your friends always look out for you. I don't think you get that when you go to big box stores or online."
Whether you are looking for a toy car or a puzzle for your thoughts, Melissa Truxillo says Big Boy Toys & Hobbies have various options to keep customers in their store. "Local businesses are the heart of our community. You know when you shop local, we have a strong local economy. You also have more options on places to shop and when you shop."
Alicia Thompson created Kori's Dreamland Boutique as an online business inspired by her daughter. She thinks shopping locally allows buyers to be able to ask about the product up close and personal. "To feel the product. To try on the clothes before making a purchase and if you know you have questions. That's what we are here for, to service the customer."
As you shop til you drop ... Thompson would like you to keep one thing in mind. "We want the support, not only that. We need the support."
Both businesses hope to see residents smiling faces during holiday shopping. It's great to remember that shopping locally has a positive impact on the community overall. It's good to know that small businesses make our community the wonderful, vibrant place we call home.
