UPDATE 3/1/2021 10:42AM- The Rayne Police Department received multiple reports of gunshots in the 500 block of 6th Street. Officers responded and learned a 17-year-old black male had been shot once in the abdomen on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 4:31 p.m. The victim was transported to Ochsner Acadia General Hospital where he was stabilized before being transferred to the Trauma Unit of Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center. The 17-year-old is in stable condition and is currently being treated for his injuries.
The investigation determined Darrell Gabriel Jr., age 41, shot the juvenile in the stomach. An arrest warrant for Darrell Gabriel is outstanding for one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of felon in possession of a firearm.
Chief Carroll Stelly asks anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of Darrell Gabriel to please call 789-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous and still be eligible for a reward.
On Saturday February 27, 2021, Rayne Police received a call at 4:31 PM of a shooting that occurred on the 500 block of 6th Street in Rayne. Officers responded and discovered 1 victim with a gunshot wound who was initially transferred to Acadia General then transferred to Lafayette General Hospital.
