LAFAYETTE, La (KADN)- Gas prices continue to increase as the national average price per gallon hits $3.28. According to Triple-A, the high cost of crude oil is pushing the national average up.
To many in Lafayette, gas prices are considered “high”. Most say that the amount it takes to fill their tanks is $40 to $100.
“I think it’s insane. I think that it should be free for everybody. We need to go places and they should just give us the gas to go,” Sherry Lay, a local, said.
The average cost of gas in Lafayette parish on October 12 is $3.02.
Lay primarily uses her vehicle for her and her partner’s food delivery business and they spend an average of 70 dollars a day on gas.
“It carries his product, and it's our office, basically, you know, it's where we are, it's kind of its home away from home because that's where we spend most of our time,” she said.
Richard Beard also uses his vehicle for work and sometimes visits the gas station about two or three times a day.
”Mainly what I do is, you know delivery DoorDash delivery type gigs, rideshare that type of stuff. Yeah, (I) heavily rely on a vehicle for that,” Beard said.
The average cost for gas across Acadiana is over $3.00 per gallon.
“It was $2.40 and under, you know, not too long ago. So, definitely, definitely hurts to see keep going up and up, you know, each week, sometimes daily you know you see it, jump five cents, six cents,” Beard said.
Luke Pitre, another local, said that he moved downtown just so he wouldn’t have to drive his truck often.
“I fill up like maybe once a week, maybe less. Primarily because I don't want to spend the money. I've got an electric bike so I wouldn't have to spend the amount of money,” Pitre said.
Pitre’s truck has a 33-gallon tank and the price to fill it up has always been hefty.
“Several months ago, it was about $75. Now it's over $100,” Pitre added.
