NEW ORLEANS, La. (WDSU) — Some of the New Orleans Saints offensive coaching staff has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a report by NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

According to Schefter, a "handful" of offensive coaches tested positive for COVID-19, calling into question their status for Sunday’s game versus the Carolina Panthers.

The Saints were one of the first teams in the league to reach an 85% vaccination rate.

Before Saints training camp, Head Coach Sean Payton said all coaching and support training staff members were 100% vaccinated.

No official statement has been issued by the Saints about the cases or status of Sunday's game.

However, per NFL policy, if teams do not have enough players to play a game due to COVID-19 outbreak, they face a forfeiture.

The new guidance issued by the NFL in June also says that if a game is canceled and cannot be rescheduled within the current 18-week schedule due to a COVID-19 outbreak, neither team’s players will get paid.

The team responsible for a canceled game because of an outbreak among unvaccinated players or staff would be responsible for financial losses and subject to potential discipline from the commissioner, according to the updated NFL COVID-19 policy.
