Louisiana has taken a direct hit this hurricane season and for many, this could impact their mental health and well-being.

Louisiana has seen the most landfalling tropical systems since 2002 and with hurricanes like Hurricane Laura and Delta can result in Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and even PTSD for those affected.

The devastation and stress brought on by storms this year have been compounded on top of the Global Pandemic and recession.
While things may take a long time to get back to normal after a storm, Counselors say that it is important to set up a plan to try to get back on track.

“People deal with the grief of losing things or even the possibility of losing everything. But, taking a minute looking around, slowing yourself down and really noticing that you are alive and you are okay, take a deep breath and maybe make a list of what are the priorities, what absolutely has to get done right now and let’s tackle things one step at a time,” says Chelsie Romero a PLCL at The Family Tree in Lafayette.

With social distancing playing a role in 2020 therapy has begun to turn more towards the digital world with receiving help through the internet and video calls.
Chelsie says though that it is important to talk to friends and family when and where possible as they can be a good support group for those going through rough times.
