Several nights throughout November and December, criminals used the cover of darkness to burglarize about two dozen vehicles and burglarized several homes in which several firearms were stolen. Police were able to locate most of the firearms in an abandoned building near one of the the burglarized homes.

Throughout November, December and January, police exhaustedly investigated these cases, going through home surveillance videos, searching social media profiles, interviewing suspects, acting on every tip, and caught a break when interviewing a suspect after a crime stoppers tip.

Police were able to identify and connect suspects to many of the burglaries.

Cheif Boudreaux of Port Barre Police Department message:

These types of crimes are occurring all over, not just in Port Barre. Law enforcement across the nation is being challenged more now than ever before. There’s seems to be bad element in this generation that has reared its ugly head. The crimes we are dealing with today were far and few 10-20 years ago, in our area of rural small town America but have become more frequent in today’s era. We use to hear about crimes like this on the news happening in big cities but now we are seeing it and dealing with it on our doorsteps. Not only thefts and burglaries but just watch the news and we see teens and young adults shooting and killing as if it’s the wild west.

We must take measures and adjust to fight back against crime. Not only law enforcement but everyone.

I know some will blame the parents and although I agree that moral values and respect starts at home, the parents aren’t always 100% the blame. This younger generation is being fed the wrong mind foods and influences outside of home life as well.

The actions of the two juveniles arrested in these cases may be a product of the influences of today’s criminal element part of society but I have to give credit to their parents for bringing them in, cooperating with law enforcement and instead of defending their kids, they were on our side. It takes a lot for a parent to do so and this world needs more of that.
