Man Turns Himself in on the Negligent Homicide of a Scott Man; Two Others In Custody

Three arrested in the negligent homicide of a Scott man.

UPDATE - Keeling turned himself in to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on June 24, 2021, and was booked on his warrant for Negligent Homicide .Keeling was issued a bond amount of $50,000.

Scott Police Department arrested two people in the negligent homicide of a Scott man on Thursday, June 17, 2021.The family of Michael Hebert, 40, of Scott, reported to Scott Police Department that the circumstances surrounding his death seemed suspicious.

During the investigation, officers found that Hebert was living with his girlfriend, Stacy Barton, 50, of Scott, when he began to feel ill approximately 5-6 days before his passing. Barton contacted her mother, Elizabeth Hornbuckle, 75, of Lafayette, and Kelly Keeling, 54, of Lafayette,to come to their residence to assist her.

Over the next few days, Hebert’s health deteriorated where he became comatoseand unresponsive. When a neighbor finally came to the residence and saw Hebert’s condition, 911 was contacted for emergency assistance.Hebert was then transported to a local hospital where it was learned that he suffered a massive stroke. He later passed away.

After the investigation, Scott Police Department arrested Barton who was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Centerfor Negligent Homicide andTheft by Shoplifting.Barton is being held on a bond totaling $52,500. Hornbuckle was booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for Negligent Homicide, Possession of Schedule II, 2 counts of Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription, Possession of Schedule IV, and Distribution of Imitation CDS. Hornbuckle’s total bond is $55,000.
