Jeanerette, La. - The Jeanerette community was in full force Sunday to celebrate the life of Kendal Thompson, Jr., the teen who was fatally shot exactly on eyear to the day prior.

The memorial march happened Sunday and began at Thompson's residence and ended at the location in which his life was tragically taken.

Thompson was new to fatherhood and had become a junior firefighter with the St. Mary Fire Proctection Crew months before his passing. He had aspirations of becoming a full-fledged firefighter.

Though Kendal Thompson is no longer with his friends and family, his aunt, Shanequella Williams, says she plans to start a scholarship in his name.

"I would like to start a scholarship with the fire department to help young college students with their college education," Williams said.

The family says they plan to have a memorial march every year on the anniversary of his passing.
