CHURCH POINT, La. (KADN) - Three people were taken to the hospital after a pickup truck hit the side of the Church Point Sonic on Monday at 149 S Main St..

According to Church Point Police Chief Dale Thibodeaux, all three were taken to Lafayette General with minor to moderate injuries from the crash. They were also Sonic employees. Other employees were also in the building but advised they were not injured.

Thibodeaux said "The 79-year-old male driver and a female passenger from Duson La in the white Ford Truck were not advising of injuries at the time."

Mayor Spanky Meche told News15 that the pickup truck hit the side of the restaurant between 3 and 3:30 p.m. Monday.

"I believe the driver pressed the gas instead of the brake," Meche says.

Chief Thibodeaux said The investigation revealed that the driver of the truck was pulling into the stall to place an order when his foot slipped and got lodged between the accelerator and the brake.

This caused the truck to accelerate and jump the curb and went into the north front corner of the building. The driver of the truck was not cited for the incident.
