A Laplace man was arrested for setting fire to the home a relative was living in following a physical argument between the two men.
Johnathan Jacob, 36, was re-booked into the St. John the Baptist Parish Jail on March 24 on one count of Simple Arson. Jacob was already jailed on unrelated charges by another agency. On February 16, the St. John Parish Fire Department responded to a report of a residential fire located in the 300 block of West 5th Street in Laplace. No one was injured in the fire, but a pet dog had to be rescued. After an assessment of the scene and collecting witness statements, deputies determined the fire originated in a bedroom and was intentionally set. Deputies learned Jacob and a relative got into a fight shortly before the fire. The relative left the home after the altercation while Jacob remained and was determined to be the only occupant of the home at the time the fire started.
Following  investigative efforts, a warrant was obtained for Jacob’s arrest and he was booked in connection with the case.
