TRINITY-EAST ISLAND, La. (AP) — Dredges, pumps and bulldozers are at work on Louisiana’s biggest barrier island restoration yet, a $167 million project using BP oil spill money. The Courier reports that pipelines are pumping sand 15 miles to build 1,100 acres of marsh, dune and beach on three barrier islands and a headland. Work began in summer 2019 and is expected to be complete in January. The project is among many in Louisiana using money that BP paid after the 2010 oil spill. This grant came through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
