Leaders will meet soon to discuss changing the start of Hurricane season

A National Weather Service proposal is on the agenda to be discussed by the World Meteorological Organization next month for changing the start of the hurricane season.

Hurricane Season Begins in 96 days, but that could change in the future thanks to a proposal from the National weather Service.

World Meteorological Organization leaders will meet next month to discuss changing the start of Atlantic Hurricane Season on May 15. Right now it's June 1. The change wouldn't take effect this year because it's a very long process according to the National Hurricane Center.

During the last six seasons, tropical named storms before June 1 have become more frequent.

The retiring of some storm names from the 2019 and 2020 seasons is also on the WMO meeting agenda.
