Lafayette Parish - With covid numbers soaring to record numbers in Louisiana recently, does that have people concerned when it comes to attending events in large gatherings?
News 15 was at the Louisiana little league championship games earlier today which did feature a large gathering of people; and as for if they’re concerned about attending more large gatherings as cases rise? Well, here were their answers:
"Not at all because we’re vaccinated and we feel safe," said Julie McCarty.
The delta covid-19 variant continues to spread rapidly here in Louisiana prompting concerns about large gatherings. For some people, they're eager to get back outside.
Mccarty said "I mean, we’ve been cooped up for a year, so this is a great opportunity to come out and enjoy the atmosphere, the weather and just being with people."
Others echoed similar sentiments, they’re ready and excited about being able to attend large events again, adding that as long as people play their part everything will be okay.
"You know, everybody’s doing their part to keep everybody healthy and everybody’s coming out and just ready to have a good time," said Lori McCluskey.
But not everyone feels like others are playing their part in order to keep others safe.
"It kind of concerns me of how many people come here and don’t wear a mask," Addison said. "But I feel like it’s just normal now a little bit."
For one mom, she says certain events have served as an escape from the realities of living through a pandemic over the past year and a half.
"Baseball’s been our salvation. We go to practices, we do all the social distancing and everything but during the pandemic," Debra Garner said. "Baseball was the only thing that’s kept a lot of these kids, especially my child, going."
