BATON ROUGE, La. - Lafayette Mayor-President Josh Guillory is scheduled to issue a proclamation declaring June 14 the 246th Birthday of the U.S. Army in Lafayette Parish during a cake cutting ceremony at the Lafayette Army Recruiting Station June 14, 2021, at 1 p.m.

The centerpiece of any Army birthday celebration is the cutting of the Army birthday cake. Traditionally, the oldest enlisted Soldier, who represents length of service, and the youngest enlisted Soldier, who represents future service, cut the cake together using the Noncommissioned Officer Sword. Three pieces of cake are cut. The first piece is for the guest of honor. The second piece is for the oldest Soldier, and the third piece is for the youngest Soldier.

The Army offers more than 150 different full/part-time career fields, up to $40K in signing bonuses, free health care, housing, dental and education, retirement plans, leadership and technical training and family support programs. Learn more about the Army at www.goarmy.com.
