Lafayette Fire Dept.: Cause of apartment fire "weather related"

Lafayette firefighters are on the scene of a two-alarm commercial fire in the 500 block of Fox Run.

LAFAYETTE, La. (KADN) - A lightning strike was determined to be the cause of an apartment building fire on Fox Run Tuesday morning.

According to the Lafayette Fire Department, firefighters were called to the two-alarm fire in the 500 block of Fox Run at 10:33 a.m.

Firefighters initially found smoke in an upstairs apartment. 

Once they got into the attic, crews found the fire burning and spreading rapidly.

According to the fire department, the apartment building had four units occupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Fire officials confirmed a lightning strike was seen by several witnesses and that the strike produced  a "very loud sound."

According to LFD, it took firefighters 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. They were on scene for more than three hours.
