Lafayette Fire Department Investigating Cause of Fire at Bridgeway Apartments

An employee of the apartment complex heard a smoke alarm and entered the apartment. Smoke was seen coming from a bedroom.

At 2:23 this afternoon Lafayette firefighters responded to 411 Dulles Drive, Bridgeway Apartments II, to an apartment fire reported by an employee in the maintenance department. The employee, while working in a unit next door, heard the smoke alarm sounding and entered the apartment. Once inside, smoke was seen coming from a bedroom. The tenants were not home.

He opened the bedroom door and a puppy escaped uninjured. The employee immediately called 911.

Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes of notification. The fire was contained to the bedroom and mainly confined to the bed and mattress. The other rooms in the apartment sustained minor smoke damage.

Fire officials continue to investigate what caused the fire. No injuries were reported. Only one apartment was effected by the fire.
