This week’s KidLit Pick of the Week is Firefighters’ Busy Day! by Maria Bostian.

Firefighters not only save lives, but they also have many tasks to do each day including washing and shining the truck, cleaning the gear, and getting rid of the muck.

In Firefighters Busy Day, children can see the jobs that firefighters do before, during, and after a fire call. Through the use of movement written into the text, they can even help firefighters get their jobs done.

Author Maria Bostian is the Fire & Life Safety Educator for a North Carolina fire department and a former Montessori elementary teacher.

This book combines both of her skills and passions to give readers a way to learn through movement— which is really important for this age group.

What Author Aly Loves:

Firefighters' Busy Day! is a wonderful way to introduce readers to the skills and responsibilities of a firefighter. Great for those readers that want to become a firefighter.

Some of their job duties are small, but so very important.

The rhyme is engaging and fun for all readers.

Shows that both genders can be firefighters and how hard these firefighters work at their jobs, even behind the scenes.

The combination of real photographs with engaging illustrations allows the reader to feel like they are a part of the story.

The activity ideas in the back of the book help educators and parents find fun ways to learn about fire safety.
