Author Aly joined News15 at Noon to share the Kid Lit Pick of the Week: Balloons for Tiger by award-winning author, Lori Orlinsky
Lori was inspired to write this story after her family experienced the loss of their dear cat Tiger. To help her daughters cope with this grief, she wrote this book where the characters, which resemble her daughters, release balloons in memory of their sweet cat. By sending off balloons in Tiger’s memory, Lori hoped this would help her family let go of their grief. Within the book, the balloons travel through the sky and embark on a magical journey where they'll meet skydivers, astronauts, superheroes, and Santa. As they watch the balloons travel to the other side of the rainbow bridge, they learn to process their grief in a positive way.
As parents we tend to shelter and safeguard our children from the pain of losing a love one, sometimes protecting them by shielding their feelings. Balloons for Tiger will comfort kids in knowing that their fur-ever friend is safe and sound…even when they are not around, giving them the strength to smile again.
