Faith has been tested for some in Acadiana because of Covid-19. This week is one of the holiest weeks for jews and christians alike as Passover and Easter are being celebrated.

Members of Lafayette's Jewish community say things aren’t the same this year as they’ve prepared for the passover.

“This whole pandemic started right around passover.” Lillian Feist Said.

This week those of the Jewish faith are celebrating the holy week of passover. A time to remember and celebrate their freedom from slavery in ancient egypt.

“Traditionally people will get together with their families.” Lillian Feist Said.

The eight day celebration consists of two seders which are traditional meals for Jews as well as readings from Haggadah and reflection on their faith.

“We’ve had to make do. I know my family and I know many other families have had seders over zoom people will be in charge of making different dishes.Somebody would fary them across to each person's front door and everyone will take them inside.” Lillian Feist Said.

This year the focus is shifting to the faith journey within oneself, family, and community during this challenging time.

“I've really learned the importance of just family and friends and ya know being there for one another um it's been most important during this time. It's been hard to meet in person , so we've had to be more purposeful in contacting and reaching out.” Alex Robinson Said.

Member of Temple Shalom, Alex Robinson says the biggest lesson from this pandemic is never taking for granted faith-community connections in the journey together. Passover started last weekend and ends this sunday.
