Eunice - The 14 year old suspect in the Sunday morning shooting on S. Second Street in Eunice is in custody. The shooting resulted in one death and one other person being injured.
The 14 year old turned himself in around noon today at the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Eunice police will be returning him to Eunice.
Eunice Police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of South Second Street, near W. Walnut Ave. at 12:39 AM on Sunday morning, where a graduation party was being held. The motive of the shooting is unclear, at this time. Two men were transported to the hospital with gunshot wounds. A 32 year male, who was shot once in the torso, was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second victim, a 30 year old male, was shot 3 times, once in each hand and once in a leg. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transferred to a Lafayette hospital. A semi-automatic handgun was used in the shooting.
A 14 year old male is being sought. The juvenile suspect had been reported missing/runaway since March 30 of this year. He is known by police to associate with local gang members and drug dealers.
This is not believed, however, to be a gang or drug related shooting. Neither of the victims are known to be involved in such activities.
