The best time to prepare for a hurricane is before hurricane season begins but it's important to understand your home's vulnerability to storm surge, flooding, and wind. So what are some things you'll need for this hurricane season?

"Whether it be Clorox or things like that also gas cans for generators... generators have been really hard to get lately ever since the last hurricanes.... hurricanes we had last fall but for the most part, you can get small generators you just can't get the whole house generators right now"

If residents are going to stock up on home supplies a flashlight might be the most essential.

"Flashlights batteries even oil lamps kerosene for oil lamps things like that"

Andrew Marceaux says things like toilet paper and flashlights are the first things people tend to look for in the event of an emergency.

"It's nice to obviously have like water and toilet paper and stuff like that you might need for emergency situation or food of any kind that you can just eat up right away"

In the event of bad weather, the possibility of losing power is possible one business owner says one thing he's learned from previous storms is the importance of having a generator.

"We definitely need a generator for sure with all the freezers we have we don't basically board up the windows the way we're facing with the hurricane coming from the south it really doesn't bother us much here hasn't any way yet but generator is key for us with all the freezers that we do have".
