Lafayette,LA - After the shooting at Grambling State University, students  they put their best faith into Univeristy of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department. That they will increase the measure they take to ensure that everyone stays safe. In less than two week – Univeristy of Louisiana at Lafayette students, staff and alumni will celebrate homecoming. Students NEWS15 spoke to say they can't wait.

"Excited for alumni coming back and to see all the festivities and the football game," says senior nursoing student Lizzie.

Alexis also says she gets the jitters during this time," I get to see all the organizations, all the people, all the different classifications, everybody in one spot, and all of us excited for the game. I love homecoming time."

After the deadly weekend shooting grambling state university - Lizzie says that with so many people coming into town, the campus will be a hot spot for visitors. However, with all the safety measures the university has in place already, she still feels safe through it all. "All around campus, they have blue light buttons you can press if anything happens. They have security checks before the game, and they're all around you see them ready for anything.

Alexis tells me that she hasn't missed a homecoming since she's been at UL, she says that she believes the UL police department is on high alert so that nothing happens. "I honestly feel pretty safe about our homecoming, I never had any problems with our homecoming. I never felt unprotected. We have UL police department literally everywhere around our homecoming. So honestly, I feel like our police providers are doing what they need to do."

Others say they have to be more cautious because what happened at Grambling could also occur here. "People didnt go out and thinking they were going to get shot it can happen anywhere I feel like when homecoming season is in time where lots of people come that don't even go to the school so we don't know who we're going to get coming to our school.

I reached out to UL police department about security for homecoming who says that they are working on making sure that the safety of students and travelers during homecoming week are in good hands.
