As part of the Louisiana Healthy Communities (LHC) grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), LafayetteParish School System has installed water filtration systems at five middle and high schools to improve overallstudent wellness and to help facilitate safe and effective learning.Water filling stations make it easy for students to fill their own bottles and drink more water — without thewaste of disposable plastic bottles. So far, installations have been completed at Northside High School, LafayetteHigh School, Comeaux High School, Broussard Middle School, and Scott Middle School. To recognize and support this initiative, Healthy Blue has donated more than four thousand sports-style 28 oz.transparent plastic bottles to provide each student with their own water container.“Healthy Blue has continued to work with our schools and community organizations in providing real-timesolutions as many adjust to these new norms,” said Dexter Trivett, Healthy Blue Chief Operating Officer. “Weunderstand the immense pressure that is currently being placed on our local schools and families and theimportance of their mission to serve our communities. We are proud to provide Lafayette Parish School Systemwith resources to positively impact our members and local communities.”“Thanks to the generous support of Healthy Blue and our other partners, we are able to offer our students a safeand healthy way to stay hydrated throughout the school day,” says Nutrition Program Coordinator CelesteFinney. “The idea for these stations came from our teachers, and I’m grateful for all their help making thisproject a success.”
