LAFAYETTE, LA (KADN) - The Lafayette Municipal fire and police civil service board agreed to hear the appeal of former lafayette police Chief Thomas Glover today.

Retired Lafayette Firefighter says "Yeah but he should've been here".

Former Lafayette police Chief Thomas glover, who was abruptly fired in October, is appealing his termination with the fire and police civil service board.
The board met this morning to consider glover's appeal however glover was not in attendance.

"If it's the wish of the board that Mr. Glover will come to the hearing at the time and be prepared to support that we will be prepared to respond to that."

One retired lafayette firefighter says he was disappointed not to see glover in attendance.

He said "It's ironic to me that Mr. Glover called the secretary what 30 minutes ago... did he send a representative or an attorney to represent him here today no sir well then why is this all taking place if he's not here"

The board voted to hear the appeal with only board member Leonard Wayne Prejean voting 'no,' and board member Christina Olivier recusing herself. Prejean says he feels she has a conflict of interest in the matter.

Leonard Wayne Prejean, vice chairman says "Her husband was appointed by the chief to be his right-hand man so there's a conflict I have a daughter on the fire department if she has a case or anything I have to excuse myself"

No date has been given as to when glover's hearing will be held but village 337 leader devon norman says he stands with glover and asks the community to do the same.

Devon Norman says "My stance is that the entire community stands with the former chief of police and why it is because it's the same story of a person of color doing their job and doing it exceptionally well and the system was bucked because he came here to do what he was asked to do".
