A fire that destroyed nearly 200 bales of hay in a Scott field Sunday morning was deliberately set, according to fire officials. On Sunday February 28, 2021 at 11:35 A.M., The Scott Fire Department was dispatched to a field on fire in the 900 block of Renauld Drive.

Upon arrival firefighters found an estimated 200 round bales of hay on fire. As a result of the strong winds and amount of fire, all fire departments within Lafayette Parish responded to assist.

After attempting to extinguish the fire for nearly two hours, the decision was made to plow around the bales and let it burn itself out.

Investigators, as of now, have ruled it to be arson.

Two persons, possibly minors, are of interest. The investigation is still ongoing.
