Acadiana - For the past year, Covid-19 has affected our lives, canceling many events. But with vaccines now available, some festivals may be able to return starting this summer.

When Louisiana saw its first Covid-19 case last March, Scott mayor Jan-Scott Richard says they tried to weather the storm before ultimately canceling their annual scott boudin festival that was scheduled to begin just a month later. "We had a date scheduled for the latter part of 2020. Unfortunately that didn’t happen either so we ended up having to cancel outright. Tough decision but I think it was the right one in trying to keep our community safe," he said.

Richard says the city is optimistic that it’s renowned festival will return in person this September.

"At this particular time we’re hoping that it’s going to be a normal boudin festival event where we’ll have festival goers and people actually here," Richard said.

Festivals Acadiens Et Créoles was another festival that fell victim to the pandemic last year, having to go completely virtual. But Vice President of Development and Programming Patrick Mould says they’re optimistic that the festival will return in-person this fall.

"We’re hoping that by this summer, we can make some sort of smart decision on what’s the best way to go based on where we stand with the pandemic at that point," he said.

Mould adds that if they can host the annual festival at Girard Park this October, they also plan on having a virtual aspect as well. "We can no longer ignore the digital universe and we can’t expect everybody to have boots on the ground every year. So we’re hoping we can come up with some sort of hybrid of our normal live festival and in some sort of virtual component," Mould said.

Scheduled dates are as follows:

  • Scott Boudin Festival: September 24-26, 2021
  • Festivals Acadiens Et Créoles: October 8-10, 2021
  • Delcambre Shrimp Festival: August 16-20, 2021
