The family of Trayford Pellerin , along with attorneys representing local media organizations, are targeting a temporary restraining order to block the release of police body-cam footage in the case. District Judge David Smith blocked the release of the footage in a hearing on Tuesday September 8, 2020. Both petitions filed in state district court argue against it. A hearing will be held next week in Smith's courtroom to decide whether the body-cam footage remains off limits to the family and local media. Pellerin was shot and killed by Lafayette Police Officers outside of a gas station on August 21, 2020. The temporary restraining order was sought by attorneys representing the officers involved in the shooting. Guillory met last week with Pellerin's family and told them he would allow them to view the footage.
