Early Morning House Fire on Lafayette Street

This morning firefighters responded to a house fire at 609 Lafayette Street.

At 6:17 a.m. this morning firefighters responded to a house fire at 609 Lafayette Street. Neighbors noticed smoke coming from a bedroom window and called 911 to report the fire. Lafayette firefighters arrived on scene of a single family dwelling with flames coming from a side window. First responders entered the burning home to search for occupants. The home was not occupied. The fire was brought under control within fifteen minutes of suppression activities.

The home sustained heavy fire damage. The tenant was not home at the time of the fire. An interview with the tenant is pending.

Fire officials determined the fire started in a bedroom. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
