Lafayette, LA – Meet new vendors and enjoy an exciting evening of art, food, live music, shopping opportunities, and hands-on art activities when you visit Downtown Lafayette’s March Art Walk this Saturday, March 13. Throughout its storied history, Art Walk has celebrated local artists by shining a spotlighton the creative side of Downtown Lafayette’s cultural district. Artists from Acadiana and beyond have been featured in the district’s museums, independent galleries, studios, craft stores, and art houses of Downtown. This family-friendly,monthly event features exhibits, live music, theatrical performances, and immersive art experiences in the shops, galleries, museums, and streets of Downtown Lafayette. In an effort to showcase our unique public spaces, Downtown Lafayette Unlimited is thrilled to partner with the Louisiana Crafts Guildand Arts & Fleas this Spring and Summer for Art Walk. This collaboration will activate two downtown parcs, giving even more community members the opportunity to participate in this beloved, monthly showcase of Acadiana’s artistic talent. After promoting and supporting the local, creative community since 2011, the Lafayette Arts & Fleas market has officially found a home at Parc de Lafayette during Art Walk. This market will take place from 5-8 pm and is a one-stop-shopfor locally made art,handcrafted goods, and curated vintage clothing. Booths include local makers, designers, artists, and collectors; all goods are hand crafted or vintage with vendors ranging from hobbyists to professionals. Visitorsto this market will find featured vendors like Lynn Jenkins of Magnolia Studios. Her mixed-media artwork includes custom flora lpreservation, stained glass style glasswork, jewelry,and prints.The Louisiana Craft Guild’s mission to passionately teach and promote creative expression and artistic excellence has led them to Art Walk. The guild’s Marché Sans Souciis Downtown Lafayette's newest handmade market in Parc Sans Souci. This market will feature dozens of artists and crafts people from across the state. Here, you will findone-of-a-kind traditional and contemporary crafts created by imaginative and skilled artisans, in a variety of media, such as pottery,jewelry, glass, textiles, metal, and wood. Art Walk attendees can catch this market between 2-8pm along East Vermilion Street adjacent to Sans Souci Fine Crafts Gallery.As a long-standing tradition, Art Walk has proudlyfeatured a variety of showcasesoccurring outside of our public spaces. This week’sArtWalk activities include:
●Acadiana Center for the Arts: Attendees can view exhibitions ranging fromSlammed!, an exhibition that explores the culture, sensationalism, and theatricality of the world of professional wrestling, to Faces of Innocence is a special exhibition in partnership withBesharat Arts Foundation Museum& Gallerypresenting anumber of works by Steve McCurry, a renowned National Geographic photographer, to visual arts pieces supplied by St.Thomas More students. Stop by during regular gallery hours 11 am-4 pm, or during special Art Walk hours from 5pm-9 pm.
●Lafayette’s only dual-language bookstore,Beausoleil Books, is hosting multiple local artists from 5-9 pm. Visitors can shop Lavshgemz &Trendz’s beautifully crafted gem jewelry and clothing, Danielle Odom’s creatively emotional paintings, Benjamin Koch’s in-person sketch portraits, and Jennifer Gray check’s documentation of time through photography and paintings.
●The BARE Wallsgroup exhibition gallery at Basin Arts will open its doors during Art Walk from 2-8 pm. BARE Walls is an art subscription service, operated through Basin Arts, which turns “BARE” business walls into gallery space. The program provides an affordable way for businesses to havea creative and dynamic workspace while providing residual income to working artists in our community.The show will run through May 8.
●Starting at 5 pm, local artist Quintin Scrantz of Scorpion House Artwill be hosted at The Greenroom, and The Grocery Tavern & Delicatessenwill be home to avariety of artists, vendors — and specialty cocktails. Additionally,Unflattering Abstract Portraitswill return to Sans Paquetto celebrate their one-year anniversary in Downtown Lafayette.
●Art Walkers are also invited to stop by Carpe Diem! Gelato - Espresso Barto meetKim Dupuis withNoble Heart Fiber Co.Dupuis createsa custom macrame withnature plant dye. She will be at the cafe presentingher fiber art while also doing alive macrame session.
●Looking for an active way to start your Art Walk day? TheZydeco Marathon 1-Mile, 5K, and Half Marathon events are still open for registration until Saturday at 7:59am. Downtown Lafayette Unlimited and participating vendors ask visitors to please be respectful of others and follow safety guidelines during Ar tWalk.
