Closures Throughout Acadiana Due to Threat of Storms

STATE OFFICES CLOSED MONDAY IN 35 PARISHES

Due to the threat of severe weather associated with Hurricanes Marco and Laura, Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne is announcing that state offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 24, in the following 35 south Louisiana parishes: Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Evangeline, Iberia, Iberville, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Orleans, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Helena, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Washington, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana.
All agency heads are responsible for determining those essential personnel who should remain on duty, report for duty or those who should report to alternate work sites as necessary. Officials continue to monitor conditions throughout the state, and this announcement may be updated.
This office closure applies to all nonessential employees who work in the affected parishes, including those authorized to work from home due to COVID-19. These employees are not to perform any services during the office closure unless directed to do so by supervisory personnel. Employees in areas under evacuation orders should seek further guidance from their supervisors.

Kaplan City Court Clerk of Court's Office

The Kaplan City Court Courthouse and Kaplan City Court Clerk of Court's Office shall be closed to the general public on Wednesday , August 26, 2020, and Thursday, August 27, 2020. If conditions indicate that Kaplan City Court should remain closed beyond August 27, 2020, notice of the closure will be posted at www.lasc.org, on the courthouse doors and in local media.

St. Landry Parish Courthouse to close Tuesday at noon

OPELOUSAS – Judge Alonzo Harris has issued an order closing the St. Landry Parish Courthouse and all offices within it at noon Tuesday, August 25 and all day Wednesday, August 26 and  Thursday, August 27.

The courthouse houses the offices for the judges, clerk of court, parish government, registrar of voters, and the tax assessor.

Opelousas

Opelousas City Court will close on Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at 12:00 p.m., and will resume normal operations on Friday, August 28, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. or until further notice. All criminal and traffic matters scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2020 are postponed and will reset by the Court.

City of Opelousas Municipal Offices

All City of Opelousas municipal offices will be closing at 12:00 noon on 08/26/2020 (Wednesday) and all day on 08/27/2020 (Thursday) for expected severe storm conditions from Hurricane Laura. Closure beyond those dates will be evaluated pending storm status on Friday. At this time, all water disconnections have been suspended until further notice; however, delinquent utility customers are expected to take care of their accounts once conditions have returned to normal and the office has reopened. All citizens are not only encouraged to begin making storm preparations now, but are also encouraged to continue following COVID-19 protocols that are already in place (MASK-UP and social distancing). Lafayette Consolidated Government Closing Ahead of Laura

Lafayette City-Parish Hall and Lafayette Consolidated Government non-essential departments will be closed as of 5 p.m. today August 24, 2020. Regular office hours will resume Friday, August 28, 2020.
Lafayette Utilities Systems customers should call 337-291-5700 to report power outages or sewage and water emergencies.

LUS Fiber customers should call 99-FIBER (337-993-4237) to report video, internet or phone outages.
To report a drainage issue, call Public Works at 337-291-8517.

Lafayette Transit System and Compost Facility Announce Closures

Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Department of Public Works Transit Division will not provide day or night bus services starting Tuesday, August 25 through Thursday, August 27.

Daytime fixed-route, Night Owl and Paratransit Day and Night services will resume at 5:45 a.m. Friday, August 28, weather permitting. Please refer to your local news stations or the LTS website at www.ridelts.com for updates on future service changes. LTS would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Compost Facility will be closed Tuesday, August 25-through Thursday, August 27 and will resume regular hours Friday, August 28.

Iberia

Iberia Comprehensive Community Health Center and all of its Satellites are closed due to Hurricane Laura on Wednesday and Thursday, August 26 and 27. The center will reopon on Friday, August 28.

Village of Maurice

Due to the approaching hurricane the Village of Maurice City Hall will be closed on Wednesday August 26th and Thursday August 27th. We hope to be able to open on Friday August 28th. Sand is available in front of the Village of Maurice Police Station. Please limit your bags to 6 per household. Please dial 911 for emergency situations. Please pray that our community receive minimal impact from this storm.

ASSIST Agency Closures

The ASSIST Agency will close tomorrow, Wednesday 8/26 at noon and remain closed Thursday. All offices in Crowley, Jennings, and Abbeville will be closed. The offices will reopen when the danger has passed. If you have any questions, please call 337-788-7551 x 138.

St Landry Parish- Health Units

St. Landry Parish Health Units in Eunice and in Sunset will be closed Friday, August 28. The Clinics will reopen on Monday, August 31.

SCHOOLS

Acadia Parish -(Update)The Acadia Parish School System will remain closed tomorrow, Friday, August 28th, 2020 due to Hurricane Laura.

Out of an abundance of caution for the safety of all, the Acadia Parish School System will close all offices and school-site operations effective at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24th through Thursday, August 27th, 2020 due to the impending inclement weather associated with Marco and Laura. We plan to resume normal operations on Friday, August 28th.

Additonal information will be provided after evaluating weather conditions on Thursday, August 27th.

Lafayette Parish - Diocese of Lafayette Catholic Schools Closing - In the interest of everyone’s safety, both during and after the approaching storms, all Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Lafayette will be closed Monday, August 24th through Thursday, August 27th, with classes resuming on Friday, August 28th. Parents are asked to continue to keep an eye on their children’s school’s communications system for updates and relevant information over the coming days as we continue to monitor the approach of Marcos and Laura. We continue to pray for the safety of all.

UL Lafayette to Continue Remote Instruction for Remainder of Week

The University continues its preparations for tropical storms Marco and Laura. Please note the following regarding course instruction and campus operations.
No in-person courses will be held on campus through Friday, Aug. 28.
All course instruction will continue remotely through Friday, Aug. 28.
On-campus operations and departmental offices will continue teleworking through Friday, Aug. 28.
As a reminder, campus residents may park their vehicles in the Girard Park Circle Parking Garage through Friday, Aug. 28, for free.
University Communications
The University will continue to monitor the storms and will issue another communication on Tuesday, Aug 25.
Updates and emergency information will be posted on the University’s website and official social media accounts. Information will be communicated to you through your University email account and possibly the University's Emergency Notification System (ENS).
ENS emergency alerts are sent by email, telephone and text message. If you have not signed up to receive emergency alerts, please do so. View directions on how to sign up for ENS alerts on the Office of Environmental Health and Safety website.

Jefferson Davis Parish - All schools closed Monday, August 24 - Friday, August 28.

Vermilon Parish - Superintendent Thomas Byler announced to the Vermilion Parish School
Board that the Vermilion Parish School System offices and schools will be closed at 11:00 a.m. on
Monday, August 24, 2020, for the remainder of the week. 

Evangeline Parish - Superintendent Lazard announced that all schools and District offices will be closed on Wednesday August 26, 2020 and Thursday August 27, 2020 due to weather. Please stay tune to epsb.com, Facebook, and local print and television media for announcements on the status of schools for Friday.
