Cleco Power Outage Update

Posted: Aug 27, 2020 7:39 AM

6 a.m. Update-  Hurricane Laura continues to move across the state, Cleco is reporting 126,000 customers are without power. Cleco Power has a combined workforce of 1,900 ready to respond to system damage and power outages caused by Laura.

The safety of our crews, contractors and customers is priority in everything we do. Once conditions are safe, line crews will patrol to assess damage by land and air and begin restoration efforts.

One of the most dangerous parts of a storm is oftentimes right after it passes.

Downed power line safety:
Downed power lines and areas of debris should be avoided.
Assume all downed power lines are live and stay away.

Generator safety:
Generators should be operated outdoors only and in well-ventilated areas.
Don’t exceed the rated capacity of the generator and only refuel when the engine is off and cool.

Flooding safety:
If water is rising, turn off the electricity at the main breaker, evacuate and stay away until waters have completely receded.
