Lafayette, LA (KADN) - Many Americans see thanksgiving break as a carefree time for children, but for working parents, finding child care can be a logistical and financial headache. care is hard to find, forcing parents to make difficult trade-offs between work and family life. In Breaux Bridge, The Teche Center for Arts' "Treble on the Teche" aims to bridge that gap.

Brazos Huval, director of the camp says "I figured the first three days before thanksgiving perfect time".

Learning to play an instrument might be a good tradeoff for parents who work while their children are on thanksgiving break as well as the rest of the child care system, which had been stretched even before the pandemic.

Brazos Huval says "More kids are out of school and the first three days parents are still working up until thanksgiving most of the school kids are off, I figured the first three days before thanksgiving perfect time".

Playing an instrument requires the brain to work at advanced speeds one 9th grader says he learned to play an instrument because it creates a challenge.

Reuben burgess says "I play the violin because I think it provides a really good challenge some instruments you can just pick up but violin you really have to put some effort into it and practice a lot".

Teche Center for the Arts has had this program going for over 5 years teaching children how to play the fiddle, piano, guitar and so much more. Bravos Huval says it's important to educate children on the culture.

He says "Cajun music creole music is part of who we are first of all and more than half of the kids that are here haven't picked up a guitar or piano it's their first-time experiencing music and performing and just exposing the kids to that".

There's little doubt that learning to play a musical instrument is great for developing brains and Teche Center for the Arts hopes to keep doing this for many years to come.
