(ST. Mary) - Sheriff Blaise Smith and deputies escorted the buses that carried the workers of the Center of Hope back to work! The Center of Hope has been shut down for months due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Arc of St Mary/Center of Hope is a day habilitation and vocational day program for adult individuals with intellectual/developmental challenges. The Center of Hope provides vocational training and employment for these individuals in St. Mary Parish who are lovingly referred to as the “Superstars.”
This morning, excitement was running high as the buses ran again to pick up the “Superstars” and take them to the Center of Hope.
Krystal Hebert, Executive Director of the Center of Hope, described the excitement on the buses.
“My bus drivers said that when they (Sheriff Blaise Smith and the deputies) turned on the lights and sirens, everyone in the buses started cheering and hollering with excitement! Thank you so much for this! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”
