LAKE CHARLES, LA- This Friday, December 18, families who requested gifts through Cajun Navy’s Santa Tree can pick up their gifts at Cajun Navy headquarters located at 710 Ryan Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601.

In order to claim gifts, families must present their confirmation email upon pick up. For safety purposes, Cajun Navy requests that families do not get out of their vehicles. Team members will load gifts into vehicles.

Throughout December, Cajun Navy used their Ground Force smartphone application to accept donations for Christmas gifts for children affected by the 2020 Hurricane season. The Cajun Santa Tree feature on the app allowed users to create a wish list if they are in need and gave others the option to donate to these families.

They also hosted a Christmas Toy Drive at City Club in River Ranch earlier this month, urging the Lafayette community to donate Christmas gifts to the children of Lake Charles. Over 480 families were helped through Cajun Navy’s efforts.

While many have forgotten about the disasters in Lake Charles, Cajun Navy continues to help rebuild the city through their social movement that crowdsources disasters through technology. While disaster management still tends to lag behind trends in technologies, the Cajun Navy is leading the way to develop a more efficient model for helping communities devasted by natural disaster.
