Breathe Your Way to a Calm Mind

It seems as if the mind never gets a day off, especially now during the pandemic. The owners of The Space Yoga Studio, gave NEWS15 tips on how yoga can help you train your mind to stay calm, happy, and relaxed.

Lafayette,LA -  With a lot on your mind, it's easy to feel stressed. Co-owner of The Yoga Space Mickal Mcmath says that yoga can help reduce tension for those who deal with stress, but it all starts with one thing. "The reactions of their bodies to the different things that we talk about in yoga, breathe, flexibility, strength, mobility. all those things start with the mind."

Mcmath also says sometimes, it is good to stop, take a deep breath, and take your mind off things, "That purposeful, that conscience breathing. That purposeful and conscience movement and giving yourself the permission to release to let go to take that breathe."

Through yoga, he has seen attendees overcome the hurdle of a mental shift.

"Whether it be through their physical activity, their mindfulness of how they are moving their body physically, but then also that shift relates in their everyday life."

"It was a break for myself."

At first look, most would think it's hard, but Co-owner of The Space Yoga Studio Amanda Mcmath says yoga is that part of her life where she can unwind, take time for herself. "I grew stronger physically, mentally. Just being able to move around freely was such a benefit that I didn't really think that. Oh well, that a lot easier for me to get up off the floor."

McMath says the best part about yoga is that it helps you discover more about your mind and body, which allows you to focus on breathing and relaxation.
