Officers of the Abbeville Police Department responded to a crash on LA Hwy. 14 near Walmart involving a vehicle and a bicycle on October 18, 2020 at approximately 7:25 p.m.

Upon the officer’s arrival, they observed a male subject on the roadway near the intersection of LA Hwy. 14 and Broadmoore Avenue. A subsequent investigation concluded that the subject on the bicycle had attempted to cross over LA Hwy. 14 from Broadmoore Avenue and failed to yield the right-of-way to a vehicle traveling west on LA Hwy. 14. The vehicle stuck the bicycle, ejecting the bicycle rider off of his bicycle and onto the roadway. The bicycle rider was fatally injured in the crash. The bicycle rider was pronounced dead on the scene by the Vermilion Parish Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle traveling on LA Hwy. 14 was transported to the Abbeville Police Department, where he submitted to a test on the Intoxilyzer 9000. The driver tested a .000 g% reading and showed no sign of impairment. The crash remains under investigation.

The deceased’s identity is being withheld at this time pending notification of family members.
