One person was struck by multiple rounds of gun fire in the area of Academy & Blanchard Streets (AKA “The Back”) on July 26, 2021. The shooting was a result of an altercation that began between two females at a night club that was several blocks from the scene of the shooting.
The victim in the shooting had intervened in the earlier altercation and also a second altercation that occurred between the same females at the scene of the shooting. The suspected shooter later identified as Henry Myers Jr. was the husband of one of the females that had been involved in the two earlier incidents.
Myers and the victim in the shooting became involved in a physical confrontation after Myers took issue with the victim intervening in the earlier disturbances involving his wife. Myers at some point pulled out a handgun striking the victim several times.
A warrant was issued for Myers arrest and with the assistance of the East Baton Rouge Sherriff’s office Myers was taken into custody around 10:00 A.M. on Friday July 30, 2021.
Myers was later transferred to the St. Landry Parish Jail and booked on one count of Attempted Second Degree Murder. The victim was initially transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The victim has since been released from in-patient medical treatment after undergoing several extensive medical procedures.
