Lafayette, LA - Each year, only 12 artists are chosen as winners of the Southern Teachers Student Art contest. Out of 500 entries, Ascension Episcopal School freshman Ava Guidry was the only Louisiana student to earn one of those coveted spots with her pencil color drawing of Ascension’s Sugar Mill Pond Campus gym titled, “It’s Game Time.”

Ava states, “I wanted to challenge myself by creating an illusion of depth while portraying dimensions that bring the piece to life. I enjoyed creating this piece because it captures the vibrancy and excitement of one of the most recognizable places at Ascension, the gym!”

Not only will Ava’s artwork be reproduced in the 2021-2022 Academic Southern Teachers Art Calendar and sent to hundreds of independent schools in the south, but she also receives $50 worth of gift certificates for art supplies provided by Blick Art Materials.

You can see all 12 of the winning artwork pieces HERE.
