Lafayette, La (KADN) "Because we were socially distancing we were wearing mask and we weren't having massive gatherings and so there just wasn't any opportunity for influenza to spread through the population the way it normally does"

The comeback of common colds is spreading quickly especially in children as people began throwing away masks and abandoning social distancing guidelines.

Dr. Simon says "Kids are just in close quarters with each other a lot more often than adults through schools through daycares etc. and so the weaker immune system less social hygiene protocols just as a kid vs. an adult and then third kids are just much more often in close quarters with each other than adults are

The CDC issuing an advisory warning for Respiratory Syncytial Virus which is commonly known as RSV.

Dr. Britni Hebert says "We're seeing this huge increase in RSV and some of the pediatric emergency medicine doctors are seeing more respiratory distress or breathing problems in kids older than they would normally see with RSV at this point we dont really know why that's happening"

Dr. Simon says although we're getting back to a sense of normalcy social distancing keeps viruses from spreading so rapidly.

Dr. Simon says "Any time you have people in close quarters be it in a prison be it in close quarters in the workplace be it on college campuses and dorm rooms, elementary schools that's the basis behind social distancing protocols getting people further apart because the closer you are the easier it is to spread"
