Lafayette, La — Beginning in May of 2021 and concluding in October of 2021, regional safety coalitions of Destination Zero Deaths, sponsored a statewide contest where entrants were tasked with putting together a video or meme addressing the dangers of distracted driving. The contest was open to all Louisiana students in the 6th – 12th grades with categories for individuals and groups in each category.

As a result, entries from across Louisiana were submitted for consideration with a panel of judges asked to review all of the entries. An entry from the Acadiana Region earned 1st place in the group video category. The entry was submitted by a group of students from John Paul the Great Academy here in Lafayette. Their video depicted the perceptions of what distracted driving may be and the realities of what distracted driving is.
